What is Drifting?

Many people have asked me what drifting is and as my project goes on I feel I develop my own personal definition better and better, but in my research I found a few definitions that I have really become attached to. As time goes on I learn more and more and with these observations I am able to accurately define the word drifting. I use what I have seen in my research and what I know to splice together my own definition. So join me as I beg borrow and steal. As of now here are my absolute favorite definitions.

"Drifting is all about disturbing the balance of the car to initiate "organized chaos." Essentially, forcing the car to lose control but then controlling it during this time as graceful as possible." - Redline 360

"Drifting is the art of driving a car in a controlled slide." - Calvin Wan's Drifting Performance Handbook

"Drifting is keeping control of the car while it is sliding forward, sideways." - Patrick Cawley

Still though I have yet to find a concrete definition for drifting that I use to explain it, but I will continue searching. Every Thursday I go out to Adam's Motorsports Park in Riverside to learn as much as I can so I watch drifting in action. So here's a taste of what is like at the park. Maybe you can come up with a definition!
